Letters to the Editor: No One Tells the Police To Go Easy

August 22, 2008

To the Editor:

In response to Stephen Wilkinson's letter, no one, and I mean NO ONE!, in town government ever tells the Chief, or anyone in the Police Department, how to apply or enforce the law!!

NO ONE has ever told (or suggested to) the Chief that he should "go easy" on anyone using cell phones while driving---or any other violation! We have a good Police Department, and I resent your unfounded accusations.

Remember what we learned in school about using "never" or "not ever"and "always"? Speaking in absolutes can backfire on you.
John? What the heck do the 7+ empty storefronts and the senior prison have to do with the police?

"Croch rocket motorcycles"!!! Wow, they sound like more fun then they really are. But let me ask you something....have you ever been coming down the mountain on 9W when the "West Point Traffic" was heading down? Now that is a VERY scary, fast, push and shove ride by the trucks barreling down on you. Hurrah for the police brave enough to slow down the pace. I worry for the motorcyclists. No wonder they try to get over that roadway in a hurry! Crotch rockets? I don't think so......BJ

And isn't just RT 9 - I live on 218 in the village and the Sat & Sun joy riders on the crotch rockets and Harleys are a never ending stream of noise. I am torn because heck - 218 IS a beautiful road and they should be allowed to enjoy it too, and they bring business into COH. But do these machines really need to be so freaking loud and go so bloody fast? Gimme a break!!! Not sure there is anything that can be done from a noise perspective and trying to pull them over for speeding would require setting up a multi vehicle speed trap I assume. Still - I LOVE the quiet when 218 is closed down.
