From Wynn Gold, Assistant Scout Master, Troop 118
Eagle Scout Christopher Reimer, a member of Boy Scout Troop 118 and Venture Crew 353 of Cornwall, N.Y., has been honored by the American Legion Department of New York as the 2008 New York State Eagle Scout of the Year.
This award is given to an Eagle Scout who has demonstrated superior practical citizenship in school, church, scouting and the community.
Chris is a senior at Washingtonville High School and plans to pursue a career in engineering. He is a Junior Assistant Scoutmaster in Troop 118 and the unit vice-president for Crew 353. Along with the prestigious plaque, Chris received a scholarship check for $2,000 and the opportunity to compete for the American Legion’s Eagle Scout of the Year National Scholarship of $10,000.
Local American Legion posts throughout the country sponsored more than 2,500 Boy Scout units in 2007. Supporting Boy Scout activities is natural for Legionnaires, who bring their service-learned skills and experiences as veterans to bear to help build character and positive traits in "Young Americans." Here in New York State there are over 200,000 legionnaires in 1,100 local posts. Cornwall’s American Legion Post 353 is a proud sponsor of Venture Crew 353.
