Police Blotter: July 27-30, 2008

Town of Cornwall Police Department

Monday, July 27
10:22 a.m.  Police investigate a report of vehicle that had been broken into overnight while parked on Main Street.  Police observe a rock that may have been used to smash the window.  A power drill was missing.

@12 noon.  Police take a report of harassing email.

2:08 p.m.  Police take a report of domestic dispute involving a boyfriend and girlfriend.

2:09 p.m.  Police respond to Cornwall hospital for a reported assault on a nurse.

6:30 p.m.  Police respond to a residence on Holloran Road where a resident said he was in his living room when he heard several popping sounds in rapid succession and saw a silver Honda in front of his drive away.  He then noticed about seven orange pigment marks on the front of his home, most  likely made by a paintball gun.

7:19 p.m.  Police take a report of misuse of a person’s cell phone number to send harassing messages to a female.

10:25 p.m.  Police investigate a report of a man seen exiting a vehicle on Willow Avenue and Route 9W and throwing a large item onto the shoulder of the road.  Police find a small refrigerator with a disconnected door.


Tuesday,  July 28
9:51 a.m.  Police issue a ticket to a 19-year-old male from New Windsor for talking on a cell phone while driving.

10:03 a.m.   Police charge 57-year-old Jose Perez Becerra, of Scranton, PA., with driving without a license, speeding, and not wearing a seat belt and impound his van.

10:43 a.m.  Police issue a ticket to a 29-year-old female from Middletown for talking on a cell phone while driving.

@12 noon  Police investigate a report of harassing phone calls received by an individual.

7:04 p.m.  Police issue a ticket for driving 52 mph in a 30 mph zone on Mill Street to a 43-year-old male from Cornwall.

7:16 p.m.  Police issue a ticket for driving 54 mph in a 30 mph zone on Mill street to a 39-year-old male from New Windsor.

9:37 p.m.  Police encounter a white male near the duck pond gazebo and inform him that the park grounds are off limits after 9 p.m. The subject produced a valid passport from the United Kingdom and said he had arrived several days ago in the Albany and has been traveling on his bicycle ever since, with no destination but was looking for a place to camp for the night.  Police advise him that there are no public campgrounds within the town and that he must leave the park.  Subject is later seen riding through town aimlessly.


Wednesday, July 29
8:30 a.m.  Police issue a ticket for speeding on Route 32 to a 23-year-old male from Hartford.

9:13 a.m.  Police issue a ticket to a 33-year-old male from Monroe for talking on a cell phone while driving.

2:00 p.m.  Police issue a ticket for an inadequate muffler to a 23-year-old male from Highland Mills.

3:05 p.m.  Police respond to a domestic dispute between a mother and daughter.

6:05 p.m.  Police issue a ticket on Route 9W to a 20-year-old male from Milton.

10:04 p.m.  Police issue a ticket for a traffic violation on Route 9W to a 22-year-old female from Mountainville.

10:34 p.m.  Police respond to Route 9W for a deer vs. motor vehicle accident.


Thursday, July 30, 2008
1:14 a.m.  Police issue a ticket for a traffic violation on Route 94 to an 18-year-old male from Cornwall.

1:25 a.m.  Police question people in two vehicles parked at Cumberland Farms on Route 94 and determine that one of the drivers had a class DJ license.  Police give that driver a ride home.

6:09 a.m.  Police issue a ticket for a traffic violation to a 25-year-old male on Pleasant Hill Road.

8:30 p.m.  A resident of Shelly Court reports that unknown persons have been stealing his newspapers for the past two weeks.

9:42 a.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident at Quaker Avenue and Route 32.

11:21 a.m.  Police issue a ticket to a 61-year-old male from Salt Point for talking on a cell phone while driving.

2:26 p.m.  Police charge a 57-year-old male from Harriman with harassment after his girlfriend said that he had tried to choke her.  The couple was staying at the Cadet Motel at the time of the incident.

10:06 p.m.  Police issue a ticket for a traffic violation on Route 32 to a 26-year-old female from Highland Mills.

10:13 p.m.  Police issue three tickets and tow the vehicle belonging to a 21-year-old male from Highland Mills.

11:08 p.m.  Police issue two tickets for traffic violations on Orrs Mills Road to a 24-yer-old male from Washingtonville.


Comments:

We're finally seeing tickets issued for talking on cell phones while driving. I hope you keep the pressure on and help discourage this practice. Any time you drive up and down main street or hudson street take notice of the number of drivers with cell phones to their ear. I hope you keep writing the tickets and maybe someday the message will get thru.
