Police Blotter: July 7-9, 2008

Town of Cornwall Police Department

Monday, July 7
12:22 a.m.  Police issue a parking ticket to a vechile with a suspended registration parked near the kiddie pool at Town Hall Park.

8:58 a.m.  Police investigate a report of tire tracks found across the front yard in a ‘U” shape at a residence on Beakes Road.

11:15 a.m.  Police respond to a report of bowls for feeding stray cats were taken from the municipal parking lot for a second time in a week.

11:48 a.m.  Police respond to a call from Beacon to be on the lookout for a gray/silver Dodge Charger with passenger side damage that left the scene of an accident.  Police observe a car matching that description, which they stop.  The operator, an 18-year-old male from Newburgh, is issued a ticket for driving with a permit and Beacon police are notified.

2:54 p.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident on Quaker Avenue.

2:58 p.m.  Police take a report of the theft of a purse and money in a cash box that was taken from her vehicle while it was parked at Manor Drive.

3:19 p.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident in which two cars were backing out of parking spaces at CVS and struck rear bumpers.

3:59 p.m.  Police respond to a domestic dispute involving harassing emails.

4:49 p.m.  Police take possession of a blue Mongoose bicycle found near the intersection of Orrs Mills Road and Route 32.

6:05 p.m.  Police take a report of a bag of clothes left outside a garage door at a residencec on Winding Brook Court that was taken on Saturday.


6:23 p.m.  Police assist COVAC with a highly intoxicated person behind the Lemon Building on Main Street.

8:37 p.m.  Police take possession of three credit cards and two other cards found near Canterbury Brook Inn.  The items had been reported missing from a vehicle parked at the middle school on the 4th of July and the owner is contacted.

9:40 p.m.  Police take a report of a subject receiving harassing text messages from a spouse.

10:00 p.m.  Police respond to a report of a 20-year-old male assaulted in the parking lot of Cornwall Manor.  The subject is treated and released at Cornwall hospital.


Tuesday, July 8
7:55 a.m.  Police respond to a deer vs motor vehicle accident on Route 9W.

10:00 a.m.  Police respond to husband-wife domestic dispute.

10:43 a.m.  Police respond to a deer vs. motor vehicle accident on Route 9W.

11:46 a.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident on Route 94.  

2:30 p.m.   Police respond to a motor vehicle accident at Landmark Drive and Continental Avenue.

5:38 p.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident on Route 32 and issue a ticket to one of the drivers, a 35-year-old male from Monroe for an improper turn.

8:33 p.m.  Police respond to a complaint of a Channel 7 Eyewitness News reporter who refused to leave the property of Cornwall hospital.  The reporter, Lucy Yang, said they were filming outside the building and security was OK with it.

10:26 p.m.  Police respond to the CSX tracks for a report that a train hit a bicycle on the track and launch an investigation to see if any persons were injured, with negative results.  (See story)


Wednesday, July 9
1:28 a.m.  Police respond to a report of disorderly youths at the Cornwall Elementary School with negative results.

3:05 a.m.  Police respond to St. Luke’s Cornwall hospital for a report of a rock that had been thrown through a car window while it was parked near the emergency room.

7:22 a.m.  Police respond to Route 32 and Angola Road for a report of an injured bird.  An injured hawk is located.  Police locate a large box at the highway department and get the injured hawk into the box.  DEC was contacted and arrangements were made for the hawk to be transported to Newburgh Veterinarian Hospital where a wildlife rehabilitator will help the bird recover.

9:15 a.m.  Police respond to a report of an injured fawn on Route 94 and find the animal dead on arrival.

1:08 p.m.  Polcie respond to a report of an injured woodchuck on Blossom Terrace and dispatch the animal.

4:30 p.m.  Police respond to a report of a juvenile runaway with possible psychiatric issue who is located at the town park gazebo. The subject says she is staying with her grandparents and left because she did not want to take her anti-depressant medication and fought with her mother about it.  Officer explains that the she must return home and complies.

5:15 p.m.  Police processed a bench warrant for failure to appear against Michel Johnson, 26, of Newburgh.

9:07 p.m.  Police issue a traffic ticket on Route 9W to a 20-year-old male from Cornwall.

9:15 p.m.  Police remove a dead deer from the roadway on Route 32.
