3:13 p.m.  Police respond to River Avenue for a report of a loose dog that had come after a village postal carrier.   Officer Terwilliger approached the residence and the dog ran out into the roadway and chased him.  The dog was barking, growling, and showing his teeth, causing officer Terwilliger to fear getting bit.   Terwilliger attempted to go near the residence again to see if the owner was home and could bring the dog inside.  The dog came out like he would attack the officer.  It was clear that nobody could go near this residence or even walk by, posing a serious danger to anyone that might be walking on River Avenue.

Dispatch contacted the New Windsor animal control officer since Cornwall no longer has one.  Chief Williams arrived on the scene and positioned himself on River Avenue to make sure that nobody walking on River Avenue went near the residence.  Officer Pena arrived on the scene and approached the residence.  The dog came out and ran after him.  Officer Terwilliger pulled out his baton and taser gun and yelled at the dog, which stopped in the middle of River Avenue.

The town of New Windsor animal control officer arrived and pepper sprayed the dog, which was then taken into custody with an animal control noose and placed in the rear of the van.
The animal was taken to Flannery Animal Hospital/

The owner of the dog, Mauricia Alo, 47, of Cornwall-on-Hudson, was charged with allowed her dog to run loose in violation of a village ordinance.
