Town of Cornwall Police Department

Monday, June 30
1:22 a.m.  Police respond to a report of a tree down across Mill Street, blocking traffic in both directions. DPW is notified and flares placed to warn oncoming traffic.

10:00 a.m.  Police respond to a domestic dispute between a mother and her son, charge both subjects with harassment and issue an order of protection.

11:25 a.m.  Police follow up on a dog bite incident five days earlier and determine the dog had its rabies and other shots.  The owner notes that the dog was very protective and was startled when he bit the victim.  The owner says that she had the dog put to sleep because of his old age.

1:38 p.m.  Police remove an ice cream vendor without a valid permit from the town park.

2:08 p.m.  Police advise two juveniles with skateboards in the Town Hall parking lot that they cannot ride skateboards there.

8:26 p.m.  Police investigate a report of a stolen white “trick bike” that was taken while the owner was inside Leo’s Pizza.

10:53 p.m.  Police issue a ticket for driving 70 mph in a 55 mph zone on Route 32 to a 48-year-old male from Washingtonville.


Tuesday, July 1
1:14 a.m.  Police attempt to locate a vehicle that was knocking down garbage cans on Boulevard.  A witness described a red Jeep, which is later located and the owner says that his friend was driving the vehicle earlier and may have unknowingly hit a can.


3:10 a.m.  Police observe two subjects going through a trash can on Maple Street and send them on their way.

7:06 a.m.  Police investigate a report of eggs thrown at a residence on Shelly Court around 11:45 p.m. the night before.

8:24 a.m.  Police warn a reckless driver to use better care and common sense when driving.

2:18 p.m.  Police issue a traffic ticket on Quaker Avenue to a 20-year-old female from Cuddebackville.

6:40 p.m.  Police issue a traffic ticket on Route 9@ to a 32-year-old male from Newburgh.

7:05 p.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident on Route 9W in which one car rear-ended another at the traffic light at Forge Hill Road.

9:53 p.m.  Police observe red spray paint on picnic tables in the town park.

10:32 p.m.  Police charge 44-year-old John Dragonetti with driving with a suspended license after he hit  a deer while driving on Jackson Avenue.

11:38 p.m.  Police issue two traffic tickets to a 41-year-old male from Cortlandt Manor.



Wednesday, July 2
8:23 p.m.  Police issue a traffic ticket on Route 9W to a 20-year-old male from Highland Mills.

11:55 p.m.  Police investigate a report made by a woman who says she has received four threatening phone calls from an unknown person and at this point she is fearful for her life.  The responding officer listened to four voice mails in which a mail voice says that she owes him money, he knows where she lives and that he was from the KGB Soviet Union.   The officer calls a woman at a number in Florida who says there is a scam in Florida where people make calls demanding money and threatening them.  The woman is strongly advised and the victim is advised how to ‘trap’ phone calls through the Verizon network if they should call again.


Thursday, July 3
9:01 p.m.  Police respond to a report of three cat dishes stolen from the rear of the municipal parking lot where they are used to feed feral cats.

11:00 a.m.  Police respond to an accident on Route 9W southbound.

11:25 a.m.  Police charge Kenneth Craig, 30, of Washingtonville, with issuing a bad check in the amount of $648.75.

2:52 p.m.  Police ticket a 33-year-old male from New York City male with making an illegal U-turn on Route 9W.

4:33 p.m.  Police arrest a 40-year-old woman from New Windsor for making harassing phone calls to an ex-boyfriend in violation of an order of protection.

11:06 p.m.  Police interview youths in the area of Main Street who say they had in fact set off fireworks but no longer have any.  Search of their person revealed no fireworks and the youths are strongly advised.

11:17 p.m.  Police respond to a disturbance on Laurel Avenue involving two juveniles who were walking near the hospital when one was struck in the head by another.


Friday, July 4
11:27 a.m.  Police issue a traffic ticket at the traffic circle to an 18-year-old male from New Windsor.

7:23 p.m.  Police respond to a verbal domestic dispute in the parking lot in front of CVS.

8:24 p.m.  Police respond to a report of subjects shooting off fireworks on Mailler Avenue and strongly advise a man and his son to cease.

9:00 p.m.  Police respond to a report by a resident of Tamara Lane that a neighbor is shooting off fireworks into his pool.  Police speak with the neighbor who advises he has taken care of the problem.

9:29 p.m.  Police respond to a disturbance at the fireworks site at Town Hall Park and advise all parties.

10:36 p.m.  Police arrest a juvenile at town hall after the fireworks and charge him with obstructing government administration and with resisting arrest, both misdemeanors.

11:10 p.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident with no injuries involving two cars at Main Street and Curie Road.

11:15 p.m.  Police investigate a burglary that occurred on Firth Street during the 4th of July celebration.


Saturday, July 5
1:38 a.m.  Police respond to a report of a possible burglary in progress.  Officer is met by a subject who states that he is the owner of the residence and forgot his key so he tried climbing in through a window.

1:48 a.m.  Police respond to a report of a possible altercation between two parties at Cornwall Manor Apartments and interview a woman who said she got into an argument with an unidentified subject.  She had injuries to her eye and left shoulder but says she doesn’t know how she got the injuries.  The woman refuses medical attention and is uncooperative.

7:40 a.m.  Police take possession of man’s black wallet found in town hall park.

9:07 a.m.  Police investigate a report that an unknown person maliciously cut the ropes that hold the tent up that the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce has erected on the grounds of Town Hall Park.  Twelve ropes were cut and the tent collapsed.  The criminal mischief occurred between 12:30-7:00 a.m.

10:58 a.m.  Police respond to a neighbor dispute over a fireworks complaint.  All parties advised.

12:23 p.m.  Police investigate a report of a theft from a vehicle parked at the middle school during the fireworks display the previous evening.  The owner reports that his XM radio receiver, wallet, and other papers were taken from the unlocked vehicle.

3:00 p.m.  Police take a report from a woman who says she did not receive her tax refund stimulus check and found that someone had claimed her as a dependent and received her $300.  The woman will pursue her claim with the IRS.

8:23 p.m.  Police issue a ticket for driving 61 mph in a 45 mph zone of Route 9W.

8:40 p.m.  Police issue a ticket for driving 65 mph in a 45 mph zone of Route 9W.

9:25 p.m.  Police charge 18-year-old Kimberly Liszewski, of Newburgh, with driving with a suspended license and issue her a ticket for speeding on Route 32.

10:19 p.m.  Police respond to a report of fireworks going off and locate one of the sources, where the residents are advised to stop.

10:25 p.m.  Police issue a ticket to a 17-year-old male from New Windsor for driving 57 mph in a 40 mph zone of Route 94.

11:05 p.m.  Police issue a ticket for a driver side headlight not working.

11:37 p.m.  Police respond to a deer vs. motor vehicle accident on Route 9W.


Sunday, July 6
12:38 a.m.  Police respond to Highland Avenue for a report of fireworks shooting off and advise subjects.

1:56 a.m.  Police respond to Valley View for a report of fireworks shooting off and advise subject.

1:45 p.m.  Police take a report from a man who says he returned home from vacation and found his mail tampered with.

3:14 p.m.  Police take a report of a maroon “Grand Teton” bicycle that had been taken from a residence on Marshall Drive.

5:53 p.m.  Police issue a ticket for speeding on Route 9W to a 39-year-old female from Newburgh.

6:06 p.m.  Police issue a ticket for speeding on Route 9W to a 19-year-old male from Brooklyn.

6:30 p.m.  Police issue a ticket for an inadequate muffler to an 18-year-old male from New Windsor.

7:05 p.m.  Police issue a ticket for speeding on Route 9W to a 28-year-old male from the Bronx.

7:17 p.m.  Police arrest 39-year-old Ernesto Perez, of Newburgh, and charge him with driving with a suspended license,  speeding, and driving with an obstructed view.

7:24 p.m.  Police issue a traffic ticket on Route 94 to a 38-year-old male from Ozone Park, Queens.

7:45 p.m.  Police respond to a report of a rattlesnake in the yard of a residence on Taylor Road and determine that it was in fact a rattlesnake.  Due to the fact that there are several young children who reside in the area and that one of those children, age nine, had actually come within a foot of the snake when it started to rattle, officer chooses to terminate the snake for the safety of the children.

10:00 p.m.  Police observe a vehicle with its lights off parked behind the Willow Avenue school and advise the two occupants in the front seat to leave.

I support law enforcement, but sometimes I'm left scratching my head. The item from June 30 is one of them, about police removing an ice cream vendor from the park. I can image how it went down" "ATTENTION YOUNGSTERS, ATTENTIONS YOUNGSTERS!!! PUT DOWN YOUR ICE POPS AND STEP AWAY FROM THE ICE CREAM TRUCK...PRONTO..."
