The 10th annual Main Street Mile will get underway the afternoon of Friday, July 4, as part of the festivities of the Cornwall Independence Day Committee.
The men’s race will begin at 4:30 p.m.; the women start five minutes later.
Runners will draw from the excitement generated by throngs gathered for the Fourth of July celebration, as they compete along Cornwall’s Main Street. More than 125 runners competed last year.
The mile course begins near the Cornwall Hospital and just past Cornwall Town Hall, providing a good view for the many spectators lining the street waiting for the Independence Day Parade, which starts at 5 p.m.
The entry fee is $12; entries postmarked by June 30 will be guaranteed a race shirt. Race day entries will cost $15.
Cornwall school track coach Dave Feuer is coordinating the race.
A trophy will be awarded to the overall winner and medals will be presented in many age categories at approximately 5:30 p.m. in front of the stage.
Check-in will begin at 3 p.m.
For further information and entry forms, call committee member Karen Ganz at 534-2051. Entry forms may be picked up at the Cornwall Public Library.
Donations are always welcome to offset the expenses of the July 4 festivities and may be mailed to: CIDC, P.O. Box 542, Cornwall, NY 12518.
