Daniella Jones pleaded not guilty on Monday to felony charges that she defrauded the unemployment compensation system when she was employed by the Cornwall Central School District from October 2007 through the end of January 2008.
Jones entered the not guilty plea to grand larceny and 15 counts of filing a false instrument. The false instruments refer to papers allegedly filed with the New York State Department of Labor stating that she was not employed from October 2007 through Jaunary 28, 2008, a period when she was employed by the school district as a science teacher at the high school. The charges allege that Jones collected more than $5,000 in unemployment compensation during that time.
Jones was fired by the school district in January after she was involved in a controversial incident with a student she was attempting to discipline. Last month, Cornwall Judge Francis Navarra found Jones not guilty of a harassment charge brought against her by the student.
