Police Blotter: May 5-11, 2008

Town of Cornwall Police Department

Monday, May 5
1:34 p.m.   Police respond to a motor vehicle accident on Route 32 and Creamery Hill Road that occurred when a vehicle made a right-hand turn but the driver behind the vehicle said the first driver put on the left-hand turn signal and she attempted to go around him on the right side just as he turned. No injuries were reported.

3:11 p.m.  Police arrest a 40-year-old female from New Windsor for assault and criminal mischief during a domestic dispute.

7:16 p.m.  Police respond to the town park for a report of two juveniles being harassed by a large group of juveniles.  The complainants said that a group of teenagers approached them and allegedly grabbed one of them, at which time the two called 911 and the teens fled to the basketball courts, where the officer interviewed them and advised them.

9:30 p.m.  Police arrest Stephen Byrne, 22, of Cornwall, on a warrant from the Town of Woodbury police department.

11:30 p.m.  Police respond to a complaint that an unknown subject had urinated on the lawn of a private residence.  Police locate the subject who says he was unaware that anyone had done this.


Tuesday, May 6
3:46 a.m.  Police respond to a Cornwll hospital for a report of the hospital not returning an infant to the biological father.  The father states that his girlfriend had been brought to the ER for mental health reasons and the newborn needed breast milk so he brought the child to the ER.  The father says that the hospital staff will not let him leave with the child.  The attending physician says that he did not want the child separated from the mother and wants the father removed from the facility as he had been loud in the ER.  Father is given a courtesy transport to Newburgh.

8:36 a.m.  Police investigate a report of graffiti spray painted on an aeration tank at the Shore Road sewer treatment plant during the weekend.

10:32 a.m.  Police respond to a report of a snake in a residence in Salisbury Mills.  Police locate the snake in the living room and get it out into the house and release it into the woods.

11-12:00 noon  Police issue 18 parking tickets at the train station off Route 94.

2:45 p.m.  Police respond to the area of Dunkin Donuts for a traffic accident that occurred when a vehicle hit a parked car.

5:21 p.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident that occurred when a vehicle kicked up a rock that hit and damaged the windshield of another car.


Wednesday, May 7
9:15 a.m.  Police respond to a report that two juvenile females left school and were believed to be running away from home.  Through investigation the police locate both subjects in an apartment in the town of New Windsor and hand them over to their parents.

10:03 a.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident in which the driver said he had fallen asleep and driven off the road on Route 32.

11:00 a.m.  Police investigate a report of a vehicle damaged while parked on Elm Street for the past two weeks.

4:50 p.m.  Police respond to a two-vehicle motor vehicle accident on Beaks Rd.

5:45 p.m.  Police arrest Brian Hand, 24, of Great Neck, for DWI after his car was involved in a motor vehicle accident near Route 9W and Angola Road.  The defendant fled the scene in his vehicle, which was located on the front lawn of an Angola Road residence.  He is also charged with failure to keep right and leaving the scene of an accident.

6:28 p.m.  Police respond to a deer vs. motor vehicle accident on Route 32.

8:17 p.m.  Police find juveniles had scratched their names onto the top slate of a rock wall on Main Street and turn the youths over to their parents.


Thursday, May 8
1:50 p.m.  Police impound a vehicle with a flat tire that had been left at the Meadowbrook Lodge after a check showed that its registration had been suspended in February 2008.

8:20 p.m.  Police take a report of a black I-Pod Touch lost at the high school.


Friday, May 9
10:00 a.m.  Police investigate a report of a subject receiving threatening voice mail.

2:00 p.m.  Police take a report from a parent about a fight that had occurred earlier in the day at the high school.

5:00 p.m.  Police observe a vehicle along side the road in a ditch on Route 32.  Driver says she was passing a slow-moving vehicle in front of her and due to wet road conditions lost control of her vehicle.

9:22 p.m.  During a security check of the town park bathrooms, police note that someone had defecated on the floor of the ladies room and in the sink and urinal of the men’s room and notifies the superintendent of grounds.

Saturday, May 10
1:52 a.m.  Police arrest a 17-year-old male from New Windsor for stealing a camera, computer, wallet and other items from a parked vehicle on Agnes Road. (See story here)

5:59 p.m.  Police arrest a 15-year-old suspect for petty larceny after an employee of Cornwall Wines and Liquors observed him steal two bottles of liquor.  The 15-year-old is released to his parents and referred to family court.

11:00 p.m.  An employee of the golf course was assaulted while leaving the clubhouse.  Incident is currently under investigation.


Sunday, May 11
1:30 p.m.  Police respond to a report of a bicycle stolen from Sylcox Drive.

2:50 p.m.  Police take a report from a woman who says she has been followed and bothered by an unknown male.

8:41 p.m.  Police respond to a deer vs. motor vehicle accident on Route 9W.


May 5-11:  Police issue ten tickets for vehicle and traffic violations.
