Police Blotter: April 21-27, 2008

Town of Cornwall Police Department

Monday, April 21
12:34 a.m. Police issue a ticket for speeding on Route 32 to an 18-year-old male from Cornwall.

1:06 a.m. Police ticket a 24-year-old male from new Windsor for speeding 70 mph in a 55 mph zone of Route 9W.

2:29 a.m. Police stop a vehicle driving 50 mph in a 30 mph zone of Quaker Avenue and charge 26-year-old Martin Martinez, of Cornwall, with driving with a suspended license.

6:28 a.m. Police charge a 46-year-old male from Monroe with driving 60 mph in a 45 mph zone on Route 9W.

9:23 a.m. Police issue a ticket for a traffic violation on Route 9W to a 48-year-old male from New Windsor.

11:24 a.m. Police issue two tickets for vehicle and traffic violations on Gadiri Ct. to a 53-year-old male from Cornwall-on-Hudson.

11:35 a.m. Police ticket a 19-year-old male from Newburgh for a traffic violation on Angola Road.

12:25 p.m. Police respond to a complaint from a resident who said her neighbor cut off a large portion of her maple tree that hangs over her property. Because of this, she is concerned the remaining tree will fall onto her residence in the future. The complainant’s husband gave the neighbor permission to remove the limb but she was the incident on file in case the tree falls.

2:27 p.m. An off-duty police officer broke up a fight at town park. Neither child was injured and both said they were friends and didn’t know why the had fought.

3:54 p.m. Police investigate a complaint who said she has been receiving phone calls for the past month, sometimes a few times a day, from an unknown number. She said the person on the phone has an accent and told her she won 3.5 million dollars from UPS. In order to receive this money she was told to wire $500 to Western Union and she would receive her award.

The responding officer looked up the area code and found the number is out of Jamaica. When the number was called, it was forwarded to a voice mail.

7:36 p.m. A group of juveniles was involved in a verbal altercation at the Little League complex. The incident occurred again at one of the subject’s residences. Al parties involved were advised and parent’s notified.

8:11 p.m. Police respond to a deer vs. motor vehicle accident on Orrs Mills Road and find the driver, 49-year-old Glen Eliasson, of Salisbury Mills, had a suspended license. He is charged for that and issued two summonses.


Tuesday, April 22

1:00 a.m. Police observe youths in the alleyway adjacent to the Bank of America and subjects say they are playing ‘wall ball.” They are advised.

1:29 a.m. Police observe youth in front of town hall in the parking lot after hours. Subjects say they are meeting up with friends to play ‘manhunt.” At 3 a.m. the dispatcher requested the officer respond to the court lobby because the youths had entered the lobby and sat down on the bench. A female was now in their company and said she was staying overnight at a friend’s house across the street. Subjects say their parents know of their whereabouts.

1:55 a.m. Police observe a broken window pane on a vacant storefront on Main Street and ask dispatch to contact owner.

6:45 a.m. Police respond to an deer vs. motor vehicle accident on Cedar Lane.

1:19 p.m. Police investigate a report of a backpack style leafblower that was taken from nearby a landscaping truck. Subject said he thought it was left out for bulk pick up.

4:06 p.m. Police respond to a medical call involving a woman who cut herself and said she had nothing to live for. She is transported to Cornwall hospital.

6:01 p.m. Police ticket a 34-year-old driver from New Windsor for speeding on Mineral Springs Road.

6:18 p.m. Police respond to a three-car motor vehicle accident at Route 94 and Riley Road that occurred when one car hit a car that had stopped because the car in front of it was turning. Two of the drivers were injured and were taken to Cornwall hospital by ambulance.


Wednesday, April 23
1:39 p.m. Police issue a ticket to a 58-year-old male from Harriman for not wearing a seat belt while driving on Route 32.

1:47 p.m. Police issue a ticket to a 17-year-old male from Newburgh for having an expired inspection.

6:52 p.m. Police respond to a report of a small child wandering in the street on Angola Road. Upon arrival police speak with the child’s mother who was extremely upset and informed the officer that she thought her daughter had gone with her grandfather to get ice cream and must have opened the downstairs door leading to the front yard where she was found. The mother was extremely grateful to both the police and the good Samaritan.

8:55 p.m. Police receive a report of a 16-year-old runaway who is later found in the city of Newburgh and his guardian is advised.

9:12 p.m. Police issue a ticket for speeding on Route 94 to a 42-year-old male from Washingtonville.

9:30 p.m. Police issue a ticket to an 18-year-old male from Campbell Hall for speeding on Route 94.


Thursday, April 24
1:29 a.m. Police issue two tickets for vehicle and traffic violations on Route 9W to a 20-year-old male from Cornwall-on-Hudson.

3:30 a.m. Police respond to an accident involving a deer and a Mobile Life ambulance at Willow Avenue and Rotue 9W.

5:19 a.m. Police respond to a complaint that a rottweiler dog was running loose and chasing a jogger on Harris Lane. Police locate the door who is at a home that he can exit and enter through a doggie door. Dog control contacted to follow up.

10:32 a.m. Police issue a traffic ticket at the MTA parking lot.

1:51 p.m. Police issue a ticket to a 25-year-old male from Beacon for a traffic violation on Mill Street.

6:36 p.m. Police respond to a complaint of a rottweiler dog loose on Harris Lane where a woman said it came at her very aggressively and tried to bite her right knew. She was very scared and shaken by the incident. The officer visited the dog owner later who said that the dog’s electric fence had not been turned on.

8:47 p.m. Police issue a ticket for speeding on Route 9W to a 28-year-old female from New Windsor.

8:56 p.m. Police issue a ticket for speeding on Route 9W to a 29-year-old male from New Windsor.

9:38 p.m. Police respond to a motor vehicle accident on Route 9W.


Friday, April 25
12:17 a.m.  Police charge 32-year-old Kimberly Haymer, of Cornwall, with theft of services for not paying a $23 cab fare from Newburgh to Cornwall.

12:40 a.m.  Police execute a bench warrant against Robert Mead, the taxi driver in the above case, that had been issued for operating a taxi in the City of Newburgh without a permit.

9:50 a.m.  Police respond to a domestic dispute over child custody.

12:25 p.m.  Police ticket a 17-year-old male from Cornwall for a traffic violation on Mill Street.

12:40 p.m.  Police ticket an 18-year-old male from Cornwall for a traffic violation on Mill Street.

4:26 p.m.  Police respond to a report from the Storm King Art Center that a small child was found wandering in front of the Art Center.  Attempts to locate a parent at the Art Center were unsuccessful and the responding officer brought the child to the police station.  Child protective service was notified and the child was brought to the hospital for examination.  Officers canvassed the area near the art center and the parent was located at a nearby residence.  The parent had fallen asleep and was unaware the child was missing. The parent is reunited with the child at the hospital and the incident was referred to child protective service for follow-up.

5:47 p.m.  Police assist hospital staff with a mental health patient who tried to run away.

6:58 p.m.  Police investigate a report of two ATVs in the woods behind the Brookhollow housing development disturbing the neighbors.

7:57 p.m.  Police issue a ticket to a 56-year-old male from Tuxedo for driving 61 mph in a 45 mph zone on Route 9W.

8:38 p.m.  Police issue a ticket to a 39-year-old male from Irvine, CA., for driving 60 mph in a 45 mph zone on Route 9W.


Saturday, April 26
9:46 a.m.  Police issue a ticket for a traffic violation on Route 9W to a 39-year-old female from Stony Point.

11:21 a.m.  Police investigate a report from a resident of Maillor Avenue that a flag and flag pole were stolen.  The flag pole is located in the woods.

1:43 p.m.  Police respond to a report of a female who had fallen down stairs after she got tangled in oxygen hoses.  COVAC responds and takes the woman to the hospital.

7:24 p.m.  Police ticket a 22-year-old female for a traffic violation on Route 9W.

8:45 p.m. Police issue two tickets for traffic violations to a 32-year-old male frm Newburgh.

10:04 p.m.  Police observe a subjecet on lee Road school playground with an open can of beer, advise him of the open container law and move him along.


Sunday, April 27
2:08 a.m.  Police respond to a fire at a Clinton Street residence.

4:07 a.m.  Police respond to Otterkill Road and Clove Road for a brush fire, locate it in Blooming Grove and alert local police and fire department.

12:33 p.m.  Police respond to a motor vehicle accident with injury on Cedar Lane.

7:51 p.m.  Police ticket a 32-year-old male from New Windsor for driving 62 mph in a 40 mph zone on Route 32.
