Crooner Levi Kreis wowed the crowd at the Ritz Theatre in Newburgh last Thursday evening in a benefit concert to restore the historic site.
Kreis, who was part of the national tour production of the musical “Rent,” offered to perform in the benefit after he was contacted by Marcus Payne (aka Marcus Johnson), a resident of the Cornerstone, a “supportive housing” residence run by Safe Harbors of the Hudson that is part of the Ritz theater complex.
Payne sent Levi a letter telling him how Safe Harbors has changed -- even saved -- his life. Levi Kreis was touched by the letter, and moved by the Cornerstone story (which you can see on You Tube by clicking here.)
On Thursday, Kreis performed mellow music and some rocking gospel and down-home music. People in the audience lined up afterward to buy his cd (You can hear his music at www.levikreis.com.)
If you haven’t visited the Ritz Theatre yet, you will have another chance this summer when Admit One Productions stages its annual production there. Cornwall-on-Hudson resident Tricia Haggerty-Wenz is the founder and executive director of Safe Harbors.
