U.S. representative John Hall will meet with local residents on Saturday, February 23, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at Cornwall Town Hall, part of what he is calling the Congress at Your Corner series of public meetings.
The first-term congressman, a Democrat, said a press release that he intends to provide the opportunity to share thoughts and concerns directly with him.
"Going to people's communities to meet face to face with them, hear their concerns, and see what my office can do to help is the very core of being a responsive representative," said Congressman Hall.
At Congress on Your Corner, Hall and staff members take the services of his office to a local community, so residents can obtain assistance with casework, discuss issues, or get information without having to travel to one of the Congressman's district offices.
"Just as it’s always important for my constituents to know where I stand on important issues, it’s also critical for me to know where my constituents stand," said Hall. He is a member of the House Veterans Affair Committee and the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, as well as a member of the select committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming.
Two Republican challengers have announced their plans to run against Hall in November for the seat representing the 19th District. Kieran Michael Lalor, a native of Wappinger's Falls and a former Marine, launched his campaign in September 2007. George Oros, a Westchester lawyer and county legislator, has reportedly announced his intention to run for the Republican nomination. Hall narrowly defeated long-time Republican representative Sue Kelly in a hotly-contested race in 2006.
