General News: Schmitt launches Recovery Task Force

ASSEMBLYMAN SCHMITT LAUNCHES 99TH ASSEMBLY DISTRICT REOPENING AND LONG TERM RECOVERY TASK FORCE

Washingtonville, NY -- (05/11/2020) Assemblyman Colin J. Schmitt (R,C,I-New Windsor) has launched the 99th Assembly District Reopening and Long Term Recovery Task Force. The goal of this task force is to solicit input from leaders throughout our district regarding legislation and other additional actions that the legislature should take to help the reopening process and ensure long term economic recovery in our region from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Members of the task force include first responders, medical professionals, small business owners, local officials, union members, education professionals, religious leaders as well as others with expertise and insight to offer on a strategic reopening and plans for long-term economic recovery.

Assemblyman Colin J. Schmitt stated, “As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact our region we must remain focused on the medical response and containment measures but also look ahead to reopening and long term economic recovery. In order to facilitate the reopening process and ensure long term economic recovery in our region from the COVID-19 pandemic I have formed an Assembly District reopening and long term recovery task force. I look forward to working with local partners from a diverse set of backgrounds to ensure we can get back on track and come back stronger than ever before. Please stay well during these trying times and as always feel free to reach out to my office for any assistance you may need.”

The 99th Assembly District Reopening and Long Term Recovery Task Force will be asked to provide input from their respective expertise and the office of Assemblyman Schmitt will conduct virtual meetings during the reopening and recovery process with task force members.

The following individuals have been appointed to the 99th Assembly District Reopening and Long Term Recovery Task Force:

Mayor Tim Egan, Village of Woodbury, stated, “Assemblyman Schmitt and I have been working together since the beginning of this pandemic to help our shared constituents that are in need. I appreciate the opportunity to continue that partnership through this task force the Assemblyman created to develop long term and sustainable solutions to revive our communities. Together, we will overcome this pandemic.”

Andrew Regenbaum, Town of New Windsor Councilman stated, “Partnering with Assemblyman Colin Schmitt and leaders from across the region I look forward to providing input to the reopening and long term economic recovery process for our communities. Working together with our Assemblyman we will help chart a course of action for the future.”
Elsie Rodriguez, Superintendent, Monroe-Woodbury Central School District, stated, “I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of Assemblyman Schmitt’s Reopening and Long-term Recovery Task Force. It is critical that we begin developing a strategy now for the reopening of New York state schools. Students at every grade level have been impacted as a result of this pandemic and I look forward to collaborating with Assemblyman Schmitt and other community leaders to ensure our educators are prepared for the upcoming school year."

Thomas Tripodianos, President Hudson Valley Builders and Remodelers Association stated, “Assemblyman Schmitt has been an outstanding leader during the COVID-19 crisis for our region. As we focus on long term economic recovery I am grateful to be appointed to this task force to work with the Assemblyman Schmitt to ensure a stronger future for our region.”

Supervisor Jim Monaghan, Town of Stony Point, stated, “I am proud to be on Assemblyman Schmitt’s 99th Assembly District Reopening and Long Term Recovery Task Force as well as started my own Stony Point focused task force. It is so important to work together to develop plans and creative ways that we are going to reopen our economies and get back to normal life after this pandemic subsides. I look forward to continuing to work with the Assemblyman and others to ensure the wellbeing of Stony Point residents.”

Kathy Stegenga, Orange County Legislator and Blooming Grove Chamber of Commerce President, stated, “It is an honor to be a member of Assemblyman Schmitt’s Reopening and Long Term Recovery Task Force. I look forward to working with the Assemblyman and other local community members to develop plans and ideas on how we can help save our small businesses and our communities following this pandemic. Thank you to Assemblyman Schmitt for his continued hard work and efforts for his constituents!”

Father Michael Cedro, Holy Cross Parish, stated, “It is an honor to serve on Assemblyman Schmitt’s Reopening and Long Term Recovery Task Force. This is a time where we must all come together to help our communities stabilize and get back to normalcy. I appreciate all the Assemblyman’s hard work and efforts for his constituents!”

Barbara Martinez stated, “I am happy to join with Assemblyman Colin Schmitt to focus on getting our local businesses back up and running and focusing on ensuring long term economic recovery from our small businesses and community.”
