Yesterday I was almost run over. On the sidewalk. By a boy on a bike.
Standing on the sidewalk I was startled by a young man flying past at full speed. No bell, no warning.
Parents, please sit down with your kids and explain the dangers and etiquette of sidewalk biking. Tell them they must slow down when overtaking a walker. Buy them a bell and insist they use it. When a walker moves to the side to let them pass, remind them to say thank you.
We walkers don’t mind sharing the sidewalk so young bikers are safe from cars. So please, before there is a tragedy, talk to your kids.
