Your Vote Counts
The Library vote for the budget and trustees is Tuesday, April 23rd. Please come out and vote!
I am running for the Library Board of Trustees because I appreciate all that the Cornwall Library has offered my family over the last thirty-two years. I have the qualifications and experience to be a valuable member of the Board, bringing a unique and broad perspective.
My wife Debbie and I have lived in Cornwall for thirty-two years and our four children attended Cornwall schools. We have seen the transformation of two smaller and separate library locations to the current Cornwall Library.
I am an active patron of the Cornwall Library and find it to be chock-full of resources and an invigorating place to be with an amiable, knowledgeable staff. The array of programs offered is intriguing. Improvements that meet the needs of the community, such as the creation of the meeting room/study space, teen area and drive up drop-box, continue to take place. From Cornwall’s youngest learners in the Baby Lapsit program to our seniors who utilize the Homebound Delivery Program, everyone benefits from the Cornwall Library.
My professional life has been devoted to public education as both a teacher and elementary school principal. As a principal, I worked closely with school librarians to ensure the school library is a dynamic catalyst for student learning. Since retiring in 2012 from Yorktown Heights, I continue to be professionally active, filling interim administrative positions in Rye, Irvington, Peekskill, East Ramapo and Yorktown.
I have a robust appetite and enjoyment of learning and libraries in general. In recent years, I have visited almost every library in Orange and Rockland Counties and many in Westchester and NYC. Our daughter is a librarian in Queens, adding insight and knowledge to my journey. I concur with the Cornwall Library mission to “inspire learning, provoke curiosity, advance knowledge and strengthen our community.” Additionally, I understand that monies are finite, to be spent wisely and responsibly, and that we need to be advocates for sufficient library aid from New York State.
I ask that you support my candidacy on April 23rd. You probably see me around town, often out walking or riding a bike. Feel free to stop me, share your input and chat about the library!
