FRAUDULENT ACCOSTING INCIDENT/ “CON GAME”
On Thursday, August 23, 2018, at approximately 4:00pm, an elderly Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson resident was approached by an unknown white/ male who was reportedly selling 50” flat screen television sets out of the back of his vehicle.
The elderly male agreed to buy two (2) of the 50” flat screen televisions from the listed male subject for approximately $400.00 apiece totaling $800.00.
After purchasing the listed flat screen televisions, the elderly male went back into his residence with the items he had just purchased, once the elderly male opened the boxes of what he thought were 50” flat screen televisions sets were actually home theatre speakers which were only worth about $200.00 total.
Residents are encouraged to be aware of such incidents/ con games and note that anyone who solicits within the Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson requires a solicitor’s permit. When someone approaches you soliciting property/ items, etc, always ask to see their solicitor’s permit, if someone appears to be suspicious and/or deceitful call the police immediately, and always remember, “if something sounds too good to be true, it probably isn’t”.
