General News: NYMA Improvements Signed into Law
August 01, 2018
Assemblyman James Skoufis (D-Woodbury) announced that his legislation to allow the New York Military Academy (NYMA) in Cornwall to receive financing from the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) to rehabilitate its facilities was signed into law by the governor.
“The New York Military Academy has produced generations of leaders, and it’s critical that this honored institution has the resources it needs,” Skoufis said. “I’ll continue working with state and local officials to ensure the campus’ revitalization moves forward.”
NYMA is the Northeast’s only military secondary academy and plays an important role in preparing students for college and the military. As a fierce advocate for educational opportunities, Skoufis introduced the legislation at the request of NYMA to help the school continue its legacy of high academic and leadership standards.
“Assemblyman Skoufis is helping bring the New York Military Academy into the 21st century by ensuring our facilities and our campus are as up-to-date as our curriculum,” said Jonathan Gastel, NYMA’s Assistant Superintendent. “This is a win for both the cadets and all those who will benefit from their knowledge and experience in the future.”
