To the Editor:
Why not restore the STORM KING theatre as an independent cinema showing quality films? Look at Rhinebeck and what one theatre brings into the town: thousands of people a week to eat and catch an intelligent film.
In addition, instead of building shopping strips, why not revitalize the town itself? There are many new urbanist ideas out there to try to improve a town like Cornwall. Imagine how nice it would have been to have the strip as part of the town itself.
The strip is also ugly when compared to the lifestyle centers all over the country that make the strips look like real streets, with street lighting, parking and a combination of old look with modern need.
Doesn't anyone on the council travel to see what can be done? Cornwall is a gem yet it is slowly dying and being converted into a series of shopping strips.

Comments:
Would you be willing to invest $500,000.00 of your money to convert it to a theatre? Even if you converted it and you ended up only attracting 200 veiwers per show where would they park.If it was a Friday or Saturday and Painters and the new Nickys(or whatever it will be called) are crowded where would you park the people? No one is going to invest the money in the village on the promise that someday they will put in more parking. Right now parking sometimes gets close to being maxed out . You can't expect anyone to invest in the village when everytime someone wants to add a space or two of additional parking people get up in arms. I'm not saying that it is a bad thing but the Village has a certain amount of folks who just don't want any changes which creates a very unfriendly atmosphere business investments on the scale that you are talking about.
