Dierdre |
August 28, 2007
Letter to the Editor:
Dierdra's time is running out and I think she knows it. It's been decided that she will be put down if we cannot find her a forever home or another rescue/shelter to take her.
She has lived the life of a shelter dog for a little over a year now. She's really a good dog. Just look at that face. So what if she's big? So what if she's part pit bull? So what if she's a little picky about whom her dog friends are? Doesn't she still deserve to be loved? Doesn't she still deserve to have a home of her own with a family to love?
Dierdra is 5-years-old. She's been treated for heartworm and is now heartworm free. She's been spayed and is up to date with her shots. She has received basic obedience training courtesy of Michelle McCarthy of Barkbusters Dog Training. Michelle has even offered to continue Dierdra's training free of charge if she goes to a home within her work area. (Orange/Rockland counties)
My own three dogs came home from this shelter since I've worked here for the past 5-1/2 years and in that time I have only had to put down two dogs and that was due to them being people aggressive. I can't take them all home!
I know there's a home out there somewhere for every dog but we are limited to how long we can keep a dog to find that home. Unfortunately, Dierdra has reached that limit. Won't SOMEONE please find it in their heart to give this sweet girl a chance?

Comments:
I have followed the story of Deirdre since she came to the shelter, and if I didn't live in a small apartment with a dog and cat already, I would take her in a second. To hear that she is in "her last days" is heartbreaking. I can't believe that not one person has it in the heart to take this dog. I know that everyone has their own excuses/reasons, (myself included) why they cannot take on this great responsiblity. But there has to be another way. This sweet dog is going to DIE!!! Surely someone can be her hero.
