Letters to the Editor: Mayor Looks at Accomplishments

March 26, 2007

To the Editor:

Well, I got whomped and admit that winning is much more enjoyable!  However, the March 23rd editorial by those “inspired” folks at our community paper was a real cheap shot.  Like a couple of people in Cliffside Park, truth is not relevant.  Spin and disinformation by these few people, the candidate, and the editor create doubt, distrust and discontent in the public mind and many believe what they read in print to be the unbiased truth.

I do appreciate those citizens who saw through the smoke and voted for me, as well as those who have been supportive during my Trustee years and twenty-six years as Mayor.  Thank you from my heart.

For a community that can’t (according to the Local), we have accomplished a great deal over the years and I thank all who served with me as employees, elected and appointed officials and especially the many volunteers, from firepersons, Riverfest, bandstand, master plan and revitalization committees, Eugene and his crew and many more.  Together, we have made our Village one of the best places to live in the state, according to the most recent issue of “Hudson Valley Magazine”.  Well done.

The new Mayor will learn quickly that he is only one of five votes.  Projects calling for the issue of debt instruments usually require two thirds of the Board voting for approval.  This vote follows extensive efforts to advise and receive input and comment from the public.  This is called representative government.

Forgive me for one last letter as I exit stage right.  Floranne and I will be around, enjoying our new freedom and living in this wonderful Village we call home.  Good health and happiness to you and yours.

Edward C. Moulton, Jr.
Mayor
Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson
