Dear Editor:
I am pleased to announce my candidacy for re-election as Mayor of our Village. I have served the citizens of Cornwall-on-Hudson as Trustee and as Mayor for more than twenty five years. I have always run under the banner of the Citizens First Party and have served honorably, honestly, and openly to the best of my ability, all our citizens, young and old.
Under my tenure, I believe the Village has become one of the most desirable communities to live on the East Coast. A serious problem is the oppressive School Taxes and while I have no control over them, I did volunteer to serve on a community task force, working to lobby our leaders in Albany to correct a failed system of funding public education. I have worked hard to keep Village taxes reasonable and pledge to continue this policy.
Many good and exciting things have happened to our Village as we, with careful planning, have made steady progress to improve, yet maintain the charm, character and attractiveness of the place we call home.
I bring to the table a lifetime of service to country and community. From a Military Commander, to Bicentennial/July 4th Chair, to Lions Club President, to Trustee and Mayor and to management experience in the business world. This experience has served me well as your Mayor and I ask for your continued faith in me.
We have much going on now, from the creation of a new Master Plan and a Revitalization Planning Committee, both an open process, with much public involvement. You can be assured no changes will be made just for change sake, especially changes in Village Law.
I have worked to develop an attractive Village Center, where more and more people are enjoying our restaurants, shops, concerts and galleries. We will work to continue this work with the aid of our planning committees, cultural committees and the new Local Development Corporation, which is working hard to attract suitable business and cultural development in our community. Private developers are also working to improve affordable housing and small business opportunities in the Village.
Cornwall-on-Hudson will become a water rich community in the current year, must less dependent upon outside water sources. The long range planning and development which began during my first term is now nearly complete. This can allow us to develop markets for any surplus water and lower the cost burden on our Town-wide customers.
Thank you for your faith in me and in those elected and appointed people who have served you over the years.
Sincerely,
Edward C. Moulton
Mayor of the Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson
