To the Editor:
Had Rick Gioia simply called (the number’s listed) to enquire why there’s been no follow-up public meeting on the Master Plan, I’d have gladly told him why: It’s not yet finished. And that the completion of a final, formal document to put before the community is a far more complex process than I had imagined. Which has added numerous additional volunteer hours to the hundreds spent by the committee in creating our initial wish-list of proposals designed to protect the character and quality of the Village.
Others have made that simple effort. Both individuals…and the media. I’ve received a number of calls from Margaret Menge and Ken Cashman of The LOCAL, from The TIMES-HERALD newsroom, and from Nancy Peckenham, creator of the Cornwall News website. Also been prodded by Mayor Ed Moulton. All are impatient for a conclusion, but none more so than me and the other 9 members of the Master Plan Committee. One person who has been left ‘high & dry’ during this last period is Jaci, my wife.
If Rick had called to enquire about my understanding of the Local Development Corp. (LDC), I’d have told him that I favor full transparency and that I believe these Village residents have stepped forward to volunteer their time on behalf of the community. If Rick had called to enquire about my direct involvement with the 2009 Hudson/Fulton/Champlain Celebrations, I might have lamented that this latest burst of civic enthusiasm is certain to take thousands of hours over the next two-and-a-half years. I’d also have informed him that he was on a short list to join the committee.
If Rick had called to enquire about any of the above, rather than use all that ink in cheap innuendo masquerading as resident distress (but in fact was shabby campaign literature), I might have considered supporting his run for Village Trustee.
But Rick never called.
Sincerely,
Lee Murphy, Chair, Master Plan Committee
