Letters to the Editor: Time for a Change?

March 14, 2007

Dear Editor:

This village, though small, appears to suffer the grumblings of growing pains. A clear line dividing this village has become evident during the recent run for mayor. There is Mr. Ed Moulton, boasting more than 20 years of service to this village and Mr. Joseph Gross, a carpenter with more than 50 years of life experience in this Village.

The growing pains we are experiencing have made many Village voters wonder if maybe it is time for a new Mayor. Mr. Gross, born and raised in the community has not only seen change but, experienced it first hand. In speaking with Mr. Gross, I find that he is concerned with "quality" of life in this village. He understands our community is changing and hopes to assist those changes while maintaining the aesthetics of our community -- a large part of why many of us love it here.

It is our responsibility to understand how our tax dollars are spent. That may mean questioning boards and committees to understand their actions and the ramifications thereof. Even though we may elect individuals to work on issues in our community, we should know what these issues are and have a say in how they are handled. Committee volunteers are just that, volunteers. They work very hard for the community; yet, they are accountable to that community from which they were chosen. It is important for us all to understand this concept and remember it as we go to polls and vote for someone whom will not only represent us but, inform us and understand our needs and, believe in us as a community.

I ask you then, would you not want someone in office who is concerned about Village life enough to challenge unspoken issues, to question plans and ideas shedding light from all angles on proposed actions and their ramifications and, who will actively represent the community as a whole? Maybe, in these times of change, it is time for a change in mayor. Maybe some new insight is needed, fresh eyes and ears, someone who understands the Community, our Village, and will fight to keep our quality of life.
