Library launches two adult book groups for summer
CORNWALL, NY – The Cornwall Public Library is offering two new adult book clubs this summer. “The Walking Read” Book Walk & Talk combines exercise and reading, by encouraging people to read a good book, get outside, and revel in taking a journey. The first walk will take place on Tuesday, July 12 at 12:30pm, followed by a discussion and picnic in the park. Participants are asked to bring a brown bag lunch. The first book, My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry by Fredrik Backman, will be available at the library on June 1 and chronicles the physical and emotional journey of its protagonist. Patrons are asked to register when they pick up the book.
“The Out and About Book Club” – geared towards millenials – is also starting this summer and will continue as a monthly book club throughout the year. The new club aims to engage 21 to 39-year-olds, who don’t normally connect with the library, and will meet at different venues in the area. The inaugural meeting will be at 2 Alices Coffee Lounge in Cornwall-on-Hudson on Wednesday, July 13 at 7:00pm, and the featured book is The Martian by Andy Weir. “This is not your mother’s book club,” says Rebecca Kashinski (who will be running the club), “The adult book groups we currently have typically draw an older age group. I hope to attract both men and women who may not be able to visit the library very often and, at the same time, bring business to local eateries.” The Martian will be available at the library on June 13 if participants need a copy.
