Dear Friends:
The Cornwall Independence Day Committee is working full throttle on raising the funds for this year’s celebration on Saturday, July 4.
We sent out a solicitation letter about two weeks ago and thanks to all who have already responded. Please make your donation as soon as you finish reading this letter so you don’t forget. And those who didn’t get a letter, please send your donation to CIDC, P.O Box 542, Cornwall, NY 12518.
We’ve been selling raffle tickets for dinners at the Canterbury Brook Inn and the Trestle, outside Dunkin’ Donuts. We’re also selling colorful T-shirts, depicting that wonderful legend of Green Dragons spewing fireworks (you could look it up), designed by Lois Lee. And, as usual, Cornwallites are being most generous taking chances, buying shirts and donating their change and then some.
The journal is taking shape with our businesses supporting the celebration. Friends are also taking ads, saluting our grand marshal, Eileen Zwart, teacher and musical theatre director, and our late, beloved Harry Houlis, long time member of CIDC, its chair and 2012 grand marshal.
Of course, we’ll be selling loop-a-lites, water and soda and the T-shirts, and coordinating coin drops on the Fourth.
All this work to raise $35,000 takes volunteers. As always the committee is looking for people to assist with the many tasks involved with pulling the celebration together. We need help setting up on July 3 and breaking down on July 5, as well as making Cornwall’s Fourth of July one of most popular celebrations in the Hudson Valley.
To volunteer or for more information, visit our website at www.cornwall4th.org or our Facebook page or call me at 845-416-8018. The Cornwall Independence Day Celebration is one of the best around. But you already know that.
Sincerely,
Brendan G. Coyne
Chair
