CORNWALL-ON-HUDSON, NY – On Monday, May 18th, the Village held their monthly Board Meeting.
The Mayor wanted to announce that trustee Jim Kane will be returning this June.
The board, as a whole, wanted to congratulate and thank Officer Jill Nye for saving the life of an older man who had suffered a heart attack. She performed CPR until paramedics arrived. The board reported that he was in stable condition, the man’s name was not released. The board will be awarding Officer Nye for her heroic actions.
The Board would like to remind everyone that on May 30ththere will be a wedding on the riverfront. Also, don’t forget that Riverfest is on Saturday, June 6th, and Artfest is the following day, on June 7th.
The topic that had everyone talking at this month’s meeting is the Bannerman’s Island Constellation Project. This project will light up Bannerman’s Castle, as well as, light up certain parts of the sky. The Project will kick off at Dusk on June 28th and will be lit everyday for two straight years. However, the board is now faced with controlling visitors to Donahue Memorial Park at dusk. The Project advertises the Village park as one of the best places to view the lights.
However, Mayor Coyne and the rest of the board are worried with an influx of visitors the park may not have enough facilities and parking for the event. At the same time, the board wasn’t given an estimate of how many people to expect for the “kick off”. The Board discussed ideas for almost 45 minutes about parking passes, monitoring traffic, and space availability. Another topic that came up was the timing, the park closes at 10pm in the summer however it doesn’t get dark until 9:30pm. Would this be sufficient time? The board voted to continue discussing possible ideas.
