Safe Harbors of the Hudson is proud to host East End Stories, a photography exhibition by local artist, Eileen MacAvery Kane.
The exhibit will run from Saturday, February 19 through Saturday, April 30, with an opening reception on Sunday, March 6 from 1:00-4:00 pm in the Ritz Theater Lobby at 107 Broadway in Newburgh. The Lobby is open daily from 9:00 am-5:00 pm.
East End Stories is a photo essay featuring people who live and work in the east end of Newburgh, New York, within the area where the FBI conducted a major gang takedown starting in May 2010. The portraits and candid images feature people who are both direct and passive victims of gang violence; people who are providing art, academic and athletic programs for the city’s youth; religious leaders of the community who are working hard to provide both physical and spiritual refuge; business owners who are working hard to keep commerce in Newburgh; and finally, people who simply call it home. The series of portraits and candid photographs is intended to collectively show the love, pain, hope and resilience that live here.
The project was made possible through an arts grant from Orange County Tourism and support from Safe Harbors of the Hudson.
A Newburgh-based nonprofit organization, Safe Harbors of the Hudson is committed to transforming lives and building communities through housing and the arts. Learn more about Safe Harbors at www.safe-harbors.org.
