General News: Local Boy Attends NYSSSA
|
Andrew Richardson |
Andrew Richardson of Cornwall on Hudson, NY, recently returned from a month long stay at the New York State School of the Summer Arts (NYSSSA) School of Choral Studies held at SUNY Fredonia.
The summer residential program is for high school students and it provides intensive pre-professional training in choral studies with internationally acclaimed artists. Dr. Hugh Ferguson Floyd, Professor of Music at Furman University and Director of the renowned Furman Singers, was the Artistic Director and Conductor for this year's program. NYSSSA provides young artists a unique opportunity to experience the discipline and rigors of their chosen arts field.
While at the school, Andrew worked in large and small groups with his instructors and worked one-on-one with Mr. Pablos Bustos, on his vocal performance. He experienced the daily life of top professional artists while immersing himself in a community of students, faculty and staff who shared the same passion for choral studies.
Andrew is already looking forward to auditioning for next year's program. While at the school, Andrew performed at the renowned Chautauqua Institute and at Rosh Recital Hall at the Rockefeller Center for the Arts at SUNY Fredonia. NYSSSA is open to all NYS High School aged students or appropriately qualified students. Students are accepted into the schools through a competitive audition/adjudication process held throughout the State each winter.
