from the office of Assemblyman James Skoufis
Skoufis brings home increased school aid; keeping ER open fulltime remains a priority
After his recent fight and victory to keep St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital’s emergency department open full-time, Assemblyman James Skoufis (D-Woodbury) announced that the state budget increases state aid for the Cornwall Central School District by over $1 million (7.41%) over last year, which is significantly more than what the governor proposed in January.
“Making sure Cornwall gets its fair share of state funding and that families have access to the medical care they deserve is fundamental,” Assemblyman Skoufis said. “We’ve accomplished good things so far and more needs to be done, which is why I’ll continue working every day to represent the needs of families and taxpayers.”
The Town of Cornwall will also be receiving over $47,000 in state funding in the form of Aid and Incentives for Municipalities (AIM) for local municipalities to ease the burden on taxpayers.
Skoufis noted that an extra $40 million in Consolidated Highway Improvement Program (CHIPs) funding will be released to localities in order to help repair roads and bridges that took a heavy beating after this year’s harsh winter.
“Keeping our ER open full-time and making sure Cornwall gets its fair share of state funding is vital so that it remains an affordable and safe place to live and raise a family,” Skoufis said.
Also, to encourage job growth, Skoufis announced that a plan to eliminate the income tax on manufacturers has been expanded to include Orange County. The county was excluded from the original governor’s plan, which Skoufis argued would hurt the local economy and make the county less competitive to do business in.
Comments:
Thank you once again James for doing the job you were elected to do. I wish all the politicians had the same commitment that you have. So many forget why they are where they are once they get elected. It's nice to know that we have a voice in Albany. Thank you again for speaking up for us.
