General News: Bill Passes to fight part-time ERs
from the office of Assemblyman James Skoufis
Assemblyman James Skoufis (D-Woodbury) announced his bill (A.8724) to require a stricter state review process for hospitals opting to reduce emergency department hours has easily passed out of the State Assembly Committee on Health. The bill is another step closer to a floor vote in the Assembly.
“This is part of my ongoing efforts to stand up for our community to help save our Cornwall ER. We need to continue to make our voices heard and this bill helps do just that,” Skoufis said.
Specifically, Skoufis’ bill would ensure that any application to reduce services at a full-time emergency department to part-time status would require a full certificate of need (CON) review and approval by the State Public Health and Health Planning Council.
Assemblyman Skoufis invites anyone with any questions or concerns to contact his office by emailing [email protected] or calling his office at 845-469-6929.
