A newly leased home on Mine Hill Road was damaged by an electrical fire on Friday afternoon (9/20) that was apparently sparked, according to the new lessee, when a Verizon Fios employee accidentally drilled into a live electrical line while installing Fios cable. The Verizon employee had been drilling from the inside thru an exterior wall and saw an electrical arc flash when he had apparently hit a service wire in the wall, according to Cornwall Fire Captain Nick Loblanco per statements of the worker.
As both the new lessee and the moving van containing his belongings stood by, the Cornwall Fire Department arrived at scene and did a great job extinguishing the blaze, under direction of Cornwall's FD Captain Nick Loblanco. Central Hudson responded to the scene to shut off electrical service at the meter.
Both Cornwall-on-Hudson's Storm King Engine Company No. 2 and Vails Gate Fire Departments assisted - Storm King sent an Engine to the scene while Vails Gate was held on standby in Cornwall's Canterbury Fire District Station.
