General News: State Park Employee Killed on the Job
Lance Gayton, 61, a longtime employee of the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation was killed Wednesday, August 7, 2013 on the job at Harriman State Park.
The incident happened at the Youmans Flats garbage transfer station at Harriman State Park. Mr. Gayton was working alone and at approximately 9:30a.m., another park employee arrived to find to find Mr. Gayton injured by a piece of heavy construction equipment.
The park employee, along with the New York State Police and State Parks lifeguards assisted until the ambulance arrived. Emergency services rushed Mr. Gayton to Good Samaritan Hospital and he was pronounced dead at 11:18a.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2013.

My deepest condolences go out to Linda and her children. Lance was a very hard working and dedicated man, who deserved a much longer stay on this planet. It was a great pleasure having to have met him and I hope all the memories will Mr. Gayton will carry on forever.
