General News: Village Board Holds July Business Meeting
By Joseph Oliveto
The Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson Board of Trustees held its monthly business meeting on Monday, July 15. Before the Board moved on to major agenda items, it held a brief public hearing on the issue of a proposed law to change sewer rents.
The sole member of the public who commented, Gerald Jacobowitz, expressed concern over the wording of the law and wanted to make sure that citizens who do not benefit from the changes that the law would make will not all be forced to apply for an exemption from billing.
The Board took Mr. Jacobowitz’s comments into consideration. Trustee Mark Edsall agreed that it is important to clarify who would benefit from the changes in order to avoid disputes in the future.
Regarding a correspondence that the Board received in regards to an issue concerning shrubs on the corner of Carol and Jean, Mayor Coyne stated that the issue had since been resolved.
According to a report from trustee Pete Russell, the Summer Recreation Program is going well. The program’s EMT was called early for two-week Navy training, but a substitute has been found.
The Board also announced that the Cornwall Girl Up Club has scheduled a benefit concert for July 18, to be held at the village bandstand.
