ORANGE COUNTY ADVISES RESIDENTS TO PREPARE FOR POSSIBLE FLOODING
Heavy rain expected for the region
(Goshen, NY) – Orange County Executive Edward A. Diana advises residents that the County may experience river and street flooding tomorrow into Friday. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the Neversink and Wallkill Rivers may flood as a result of this storm system.
Orange County is currently in a FLOOD WATCH, which means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.
“Nearly all flood related fatalities are a result of drivers driving through flooded roads,” said County Executive Diana. “Please do not drive through flooded roads, turn around, don’t drown.”
The County was briefed by the NWS today on updated model forecasts, and held a call with County municipal leaders to brief them on the situation. Additional briefings will be held Thursday.
“Residents are advised to stay away from any downed wires and consider them live and dangerous,” said Walter C. Koury, Orange County Commissioner of Emergency Services.
“Those who live in flood prone areas of the County should be closely monitoring weather reports and water levels,” said Seamus K. Leary, Deputy Commissioner Division of Emergency Management.
The Orange County Division of Emergency Management is monitoring the situation and will open the County’s Emergency Operation Center (EOC) in Goshen at 11:00 am on Thursday morning.
