The Cornwall Community Co-op invited bakers to enter the 'Locavore Challenge' Pie Baking Contest. The challenge was to bake delicious desserts made from locally sourced ingredients.
The Contest was held August 4, 2012 at the once a month Saturday Farmers Market. Five bakers entered the contest, each with a pie and a recipe card that included the origins of the ingredients. Judges based the winning pie by both taste and use of local ingredients. The pies included ingredients such as apples from Daegle Farm, flour from Wild Hive farm, maple syrup from Kiernan Farms and goat cheese from Edgwick Farm.
The winning pie was the Nectarine Plum Pie made by Francine Schuster who used local ingredients including eggs from the Grey Family Farm of New Windsor, N.Y. and nectarines and plums from the Locust Grove Farm of Milton, N.Y.
Francine received two free tickets to the upcoming 'End of the Locavore Challenge Dinner' at the Hudson Street Café.
