From the Cornwall Public Library
Calling All Poets, Ages 5-25
Annual Poetry Competition Underway
CORNWALL, NY – Entries are now being accepted for Cornwall Public Library’s 2015 Timothy Mumford Memorial Poetry Competition. Young poets who reside within the Cornwall School District are invited to participate. As in previous years, the library is anticipating a terrific response to this annual competition.
Timothy Mumford was a 1999 graduate of Cornwall High School and a 2003 graduate of New York University’s Gallatin School. Tim studied music and played the piano, guitar and trumpet. He wrote both poetry and song lyrics, and played the featured piano piece during his Gallatin School graduation ceremony at Avery Fischer Hall in Lincoln Center. Tim was also the winner of the 1999 Orange County Day poetry contest. Those who knew him describe him as a kind, sensitive, and artistic young man.
Submissions will be rated (anonymously) in six different age categories by a panel of independent judges, as well as a best overall poem. Submissions will be accepted through 4:00 p.m. Sunday, April 12th. Winners in each of the categories will be announced and awards presented during a special program scheduled for Sunday, April 26th at 3:00 p.m. in the Library’s community room.
Rules and more detailed information about the 2015 Timothy Mumford Memorial Poetry Competition are available at the library, on the library’s website (www.cornwallpubliclibrary.org) or by e-mailing Liz Fisher at [email protected]. Submissions can be dropped off at the library during regular hours, e-mailed to: [email protected], or mailed to: Cornwall Public Library, Attn: Poetry Competition, 395 Hudson St., Cornwall, NY 12518.
