General News: County Offers EMT Training Classes
Spring 2016 COURSES
The Orange County Division of EMS is sponsoring an EMT original and refresher course. The NYSDOH, Bureau of EMS has adopted the national standards for all upcoming courses. There are now new requirements in place to meet the national standards. Students taking either the original or refresher are required to submit documentation that they have taken the following courses. These courses are:National Incident Management System, An Introduction IS-700; Introduction to Incident Command System IS-100b; and Hazmat Awareness. The documentation must be submitted prior to taking the written certification examination. These courses can be obtained online free of charge. EMT Original
Starts Monday, February 1, 2016 and will run from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The New York State Certification Examination will be on Thursday, June 16, 2016. The course will be taught at the Orange County Emergency Services Center. Students are required to purchase their own textbooks, workbooks and pocket mask. The textbook for the course is Emergency Care by Brady, 13th edition. The web site address for the books is bradybooks.com.
EMT Refresher
Starts Tuesday, February 2, 2016 and will run from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesdays. The New York State Certification will be Thursday, June 16, 2016. The course will be taught at the Orange County Emergency Services Center. Students must send a copy of their EMT Certification card along with the application. Students are required to have their own pocket mask. course.
An application for these courses is enclosed. Please read the application very carefully before mailing it in. Applications received that are incomplete will not be accepted. Feel free to make as many copies of the application and Verification of Membership form (DOH 3312) as you need.
