General News: Village Adopts Smaller Budget
The village of Cornwall-on-Hudson adopted a new budget Monday evening that will increase the local tax levy by 1.3 percent. That’s .7 percent below the 2 percent cap imposed on all municipal governments by the state of New York last year.
The village board approved the budget by a vote of 3 to 2. Trustees Andrew Argenio and Barbara Gosda voted against it.
The $3.4 million budget is actually half a million dollars smaller than the current budget. Mayor Coyne said that he removed a $220,000 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency that has not been spent in several years. Other spending was trimmed from the budget for a treasurer’s salary and for salaries and benefits in the police department.
Comments:
The actual tax increase is 2.85% dispite the reduction in spending

I voted no because profits and surpluses from last year were not included in this budget. About $305000 in water profits and about $145000 in general fund surpluses.
