The Heroic Age of Diving
Local Author Jerry Kuntz will discuss book on Deepwater Diving
CORNWALL, NY – On Thursday, May 19th at 6:30pm, the Cornwall Public Library will be hosting local author Jerry Kuntz to discuss the development of deepwater diving and salvage diving before the Civil War – focusing primarily on activity in the Hudson River and the Great Lakes. This is the subject of his new book, The Heroic Age of Diving. Central to this topic is the legendary story of diver John B. Green and his efforts from 1852-1856 to recover an American Express Company safe full of gold from a shipwrecked steamer in the deepest part of Lake Erie.
Jerry Kuntz is an electronic resources librarian residing in Warwick. He has previously published biographies of 19th century characters such as cowboy aviator Samuel F. Cody and frontier female detective imposter Nellie King.
Mr. Kuntz will be bringing an early diving helmet which attendees can try on for a photo op. Books will be available for sale and signing through the Friends Bookstore. For more information, please call the library at 534-8282.
