General News: Police Release Names in Fatal Accident

The Town of Cornwall Police Department have released the names of the victims in the fatal three car accident on Wednesday.
Cornwall Police confirmed that William Rivera, 28 of New Windsor and his passenger Eugene Wheeler, 54 of Newburgh, where killed after Rivera tried to pass a vehicle illegally while traveling north on Route 32.
Police said that Rivera was witnessed trying pass a vehicle in a no passing zone near Industrial Drive and sideswiped a vehicle in the southbound lane. Rivera then lost control, according to police, and crashed into another vehicle in the southbound lane. Wheeler was pronounced dead at the scene and Rivera was taken to St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital and later succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.
The drivers of the two other vehicles were both injured in the crash. David Maclean, 61 of Highland Mills, was in the vehicle sideswiped by Rivera. MacLean was treated for minor injuries at Cornwall Hospital and later released.
The driver of the vehicle struck after Rivera lost control, Robert Diaz, 43 of Haverstaw, sustained more serious injuries and was transported to Westchester Medical Center.
