General News: Public Hearing Set on Master Plan Changes
By Charlie B. Scirbona
The Town of Cornwall’s revised draft comprehensive plan will be up for its first round of public comment August 16.
The comprehensive plan committee decided Thursday that the last round of revisions to the plan, discussed in the joint meeting with the town board in June, were enough to make the current draft available to the public. The first round of public comment will be held in the Town of Cornwall courtroom at 7:15 pm on August 16.
Once the public is heard from, the draft plan will be sent to the town board for review and another round of public comment before a final draft can be voted on.
The comprehensive plan is used as a guide for the town board to work on new improvements over the next five years. The major revisions include language that calls for finding ways to improve buildings on Main Street and make it economically feasible, while also looking into the possibility of adding a historic and business district.
One section that remained untouched was language regarding Canterbury Green that calls for it to remain as 55-and-older housing. Attorney Gerald Jacobowicz, who represents Canterbury Green LLC, sat through the meeting at one point interrupting the discussion over the legality of changing the language. Ultimately town attorney Steven Gaba said he preferred to discuss the issue with the committee members in executive session.
