General News: Town May Renew Bldg. Inspection Services Pact
By Charlie B. Scirbona
The Cornwall town council will vote on Monday whether to renew its 90-day agreement with the village to share its building inspector while the village board of trustees searches for a person to fill the job.
The agreement was first signed in early March as a temporary measure while the village searched for a new building inspector. Since March, Cornwall building inspector Gary Vinson has done around 81 hours of work in the village at a rate of $45 an hour.
The inter-municipal agreement came about after the position stood vacant for more then two months and various requests for inspections and permits began to back up.
Not all of the town council members were quick to renew the agreement. Town councilman Randy Clark expressed his concern that renewing the agreement without any sort of cut off point would let the village board drag its feet in finding a new building inspector.
Village Mayor Brendan Coyne said they are already in the process of searching for a new building inspector for the village.
“We already have several applications here from before I was mayor, and we’ll be putting an ad out for the position hopefully by this weekend so we can get new applications as well,” said Coyne.
“It’s my intention to have someone come to work for us (as building inspector) by August,” he said.
