General News: Petraeus Expected to Be Named CIA Director
|
General David Petraeus |
The President has yet to speak on the subject, but numerous sources are telling news outlets nationwide that on Thursday he will name General David Petreaus head of the Central Intelligence Agency. Reports indicate that Petreaus will replace current CIA director Leon Panetta, who will become Defense Secretary.
Petreaus, who was born and raised in Cornwall-on-Hudson, is currently the commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan. The four-star general has held numerous leadership positions in the U.S. Army after graduating from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1974. He graduated from Cornwall Central High School in 1970.

The rank of 5 Star General does not exist anymore. Omar Bradley was the last to receive it, on September 20, 1950. He is interred in Arlington National Cemetery, Section 30, along with GEN Charles P. Summerall, President William Howard Taft, Hugo Black, CPT Michael Groves, James Vincent Forrestal, and Brig. Gen William T. Ryder.
With that being said, it hasn't happened in 61 years. Although he is an outstanding leader, the Army isn't in the habit of giving out a fifth star. So don't hold your breath.
Nevertheless, congratulations are still in order; if the rumor is true.
