General News: CCHS Grad Recognized for Educational Work
|
Tracey (Grimyser) Severens |
A Cornwall Central High School graduate has received the Katherine Goerss Leadership Award for her performances as principal of the Mount Olive Middle School in Budding Lake, N.J. Tracey Severns, formerly Tracey Grimyser, graduated from CCHS in 1980 and went on to become a special education teacher.
The New Jersey Middle School Association gives the annual award to one teacher or administrator each year in recognition of exemplary middle school performances.
Severns has a long resume that precedes her time at Mount Olive Middle School. Previously, she was a special education teacher at both the Children's Institute in Livingston (now located in Verona) and Millburn Middle School. She was also vice principal at Hope Township School, principal of Frelinghuysen Middle School in the Morris School District, and superintendent of Great Meadows Regional School District in Warren County.
Severns was nominated for the honor by a student, a parent and a teacher, and was recommended by the superintendent, then chosen from a pool of a dozen finalists.
