General News: Public Invited to Arbor Day Celebration
Friday, April 29th is Arbor Day, a special day set aside to celebrate trees. The Cornwall Garden Club in coordination with the Town of Cornwall Conservation Advisory Council will observe Arbor Day with a tree planting and brief ceremony in River Light Park at 5:00 p.m. The public is cordially invited to attend. Trees will be planted to add to the maple tree allee along the park drive, a proclamation will be read and light refreshments will be served. Those who wish to attend should assemble at the site of the tree planting along the drive near Munger Cottage. In the event of rain, please assemble at the gazebo at Munger Cottage.
Each year the Cornwall Garden Club plants a tree or shrub to beautify the community. This year's planting will add to the maple tree allee started in 2007. The Cornwall Garden Club is a not-for-profit organization that strives to create a love for and interest in gardening. It encourages learning about gardening, horticulture design and flower arranging along with aiding in the conservation of our natural flora. The Arbor Day celebration is one of the Garden Club's many projects to beautify our public grounds in coordination with community leaders.
Membership in the Cornwall Garden Club is open to all interested persons. If you would like more information about joining the Cornwall Garden Club, you can speak to members at the Arbor Day celebration on April 29th or at the upcoming annual plant sale on May 7th at the Sands Ring Homestead. You can also telephone Garden Club representatives at 534-6565 or 534-0444 for membership information. The Cornwall Garden Club encourages both children and adults to attend its programs and its activities are conducted with a lively spirit of goodwill.
