General News: Food for Fines at the Library
From the Cornwall Public Library
Cornwall Library ‘Food for Fines’ to Benefit Food Bank of the Hudson Valley
CORNWALL – The Cornwall Public Library will kick off its popular “Food for Fines” program on April 17, running through April 24. All donations will be given to the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley, a local organization supporting food pantries that distribute food to anyone in need.
During this period, the Library will accept non-perishable food items in exchange for overdue fines. For each item donated, up to $1 in fines will be cleared.
All food items must be in their original packaging, and new – well within their “use before” date. Canned items must have labels, and no open or damaged items will be accepted. Any non-perishable food item will be accepted; however, the more popular items to consider donating are coffee, soup and Carnation Instant Breakfast.
The program is limited to Cornwall Public Library card holders. Credit for items applies only to overdue fines – no replacement costs for lost or damaged items will be waived. Patrons who don’t have overdue fees but wish to donate non-perishable food are welcome to do so.
