General News: Bill Impacts Local Police Retirement Plans
Four officers in the Cornwall-on-Hudson police department will be able to chose a 20-year retirement plan following the passage of a new law introduced by state senator Bill Larkin, a Republican from the village of Cornwall-on-Hudson.
Larkin announced recently that Governor David Paterson has signed into law legislation that authorizes the village to offer the optional retirement plan. He said that the option was not previously available due to “administrative oversights which had enrolled the officers in the wrong retirement plans.”
Larkin also said the governor signed a similar piece of legislation that addresses the same issue in the town of Montgomery, where one of its police officers will now be eligible for the 20-year retirement plan.
