General News: Republican Candidates for Senate Debate
The Republican primary will be held on September 14th and Cornwall-on-Hudson’s Jay Townsend is working hard for the party’s nomination to face Democratic Senator Charles Schumer in the November election.
Townsend is in a tight race with Republican Gary Berntsen for the right to challenge Schumer, who is running for his third term in office.
Last week, Townsend and Berntsen held a televised debate at Union College in Schedectady, where they had a chance to tell voters how they differ on the issues from the Islamic mosque to job creation, health care and international security.
With a recent Siena College poll showing the two Republicans in a neck-to-neck primary race, the debate gave the candidates a chance to showcase their ideas about how the country should be run.
