General News: New Headmaster for NYMA

The Board of Trustees of New York Military Academy has appointed Evan Jones to the position of Interim-Headmaster.
Jones is a 1978 graduate of New York Military Academy, and brings over 25 years of education and leadership experience to the post. The board said in an announcement this week that Jones, an educational consultant, has extensive experience in building “cutting edge educational programming for charter and private schools.” He has served as a teacher, director of strategic planning and head of school for private boarding schools including, The Wakefield School in Virginia and Cheshire Academy in Connecticut.
“We’re incredibly excited to have Evan Jones begin to head up our academic program. He will be an integral part of building a highly competitive and relevant curriculum for NYMA. Our teaching staff has enthusiastically welcomed Evan to the school. They are now working with him around the clock to implement our retooled academic program that will provide NYMA cadets with a superior academic experience,” said Major Jeff Coverdale, the academy’s new Superintendent who replaces Captain Robert Watts, who retired in June.
New York Military Academy recently announced that it would open for its 121st year after a group of alumni, parents and community members were able to secure funding to refinance the school and implement a new strategic plan that will allow NYMA move into the future competitively and securely, the board said in its statement.
