General News: Overnight Dispatch Moves to County
The Cornwall police department’s overnight dispatch service has moved permanently to Orange County, effective this past Monday.
The move will save the department approximately $55-65,000 a year, according to police chief Todd Hazard, who estimates that only two or three calls a night came in to the dispatcher from Cornwall and Cornwall-on-Hudson residents.
Hazard said that members of the public will probably not notice the shift in service. People will still dial 534-8100 but the call will be answered by a county dispatcher who will notify a Cornwall or Cornwall-on-Hudson police officer. Phones that are located outside the police headquarters in both the town and village will dial directly to the county.
